Andrew Dilworth is a litigation partner with Cooper, White & Cooper LLP. Mr. Dilworth counsels lawyers and law firms in California and nationwide on issues of professional responsibility. His practice focuses principally on the law governing lawyers, including the defense of legal malpractice actions, malicious prosecution actions, and other litigation brought by or against lawyers. Mr. Dilworth also handles business and criminal litigation in federal and state courts, including First Amendment litigation, business torts and contract disputes, and the defense of businesses and individuals in grand jury and criminal proceedings. Mr. Dilworth has been involved in several high profile cases involving attorney ethics. His experience in professional responsibility matters includes handling State Bar investigations and disciplinary proceedings, State Bar admission issues, law firm break-ups and attorney departures, client fee disputes, conflicts of interests and disqualification motions, sanctions motions, anti-SLAPP motions, disputes regarding claims of attorney-client privilege or work product, and other proceedings that relate to the conduct of lawyers and law firms. Mr. Dilworth also counsels lawyers and law firms on risk management issues and compliance with the Rules of Professional Conduct, and is available to provide expert testimony. Mr. Dilworth writes frequently on issues of lawyer conduct. His articles have appeared in publications such as Los Angeles Lawyer, ABA GP Solo magazine, the Media Law Resource Newsletter, the CJA Criminal Defense Journal and other publications by State and local Bar associations. Mr. Dilworth also lectures frequently on issues of legal ethics, malpractice and law firm risk management for organizations such as Strafford Publications and various California Bar Associations. Mr. Dilworth is the Vice-Chair of the Bar Association of San Francisco's Legal Ethics Committee. He is a member of the Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers (APRL) and the ABA Center for Professional Responsibility and Conduct (CPRC). He is also an Adjunct Professor of Law for the University of San Francisco School of Law where he teaches Legal Ethics. Mr. Dilworth also serves as Special Counsel to his law firm on professional responsibility issues. Mr. Dilworth earned his B.A. degree in Philosophy from Northwestern University in 1990. He attended law school at the University of San Francisco School of Law where he graduated cum laude in 1995. While attending law school, Mr. Dilworth received academic honors, was granted the American Jurisprudence Award in dispute resolution, and received the award for Best Brief in Moot Court competition.
