Derek A. Ridgway, managing partner of Cooper, White & Cooper's Walnut Creek office, focuses his practice in real estate transactions, construction and corporate matters, with an emphasis on sustainable business practices.  He is a LEED® Accredited Professional.  He regularly counsels in-house corporate counsel, corporate real estate executives and principals in domestic and international matters including:

• the acquisition, financing, disposition and structuring of portfolio real estate transactions
  
  
• the acquisition, development, and leasing of office, R&D, lab, industrial and data centers
  
  
• the design, procurement, construction, automation and commissioning of manufacturing facilities, industrial plants, and related facilities
  
  
• "green" compliance and best practices, including sustainable building and design, "green" leasing, renewable energy, “green” management and LEED® certification, and
  
  
• the processing of energy credits, incentives, and entitlements with public agencies and utilities
  
  

Over the last decade, Mr. Ridgway has structured and negotiated the design/build and validation of manufacturing facilities, including biopharmaceutical facilities, in Singapore, California and Oregon, with an aggregate construction value of over $1 billion.  He has also facilitated the closing of corporate and real estate acquisitions with an aggregate value of over $200 million, and has negotiated the leasing of over one million square feet of space throughout the United States, London and Singapore.

Mr. Ridgway also provides general counsel to California-based corporations, including charitable organizations, in a wide variety of corporate and commercial transactions.

Mr. Ridgway received his undergraduate degree from Loyola Marymount University, where he was nominated as valedictorian and received the Scholar Award. Mr. Ridgway received his law degree from the University of San Francisco, where he received the Cali Award for his achievements in the study of law. Mr. Ridgway is also personally licensed as a California Real Estate Broker (not affiliated with Cooper, White & Cooper LLP).  Mr. Ridgway is a consulting and update author of the "Green Building" chapter of the CEB publication California Construction Contracts, Defects, and Litigation, is a contributing author of the California Real Property Law Reporter, and is a presenting speaker on advanced lease analysis.  He currently serves as a board member and officer of the Northern California Chapter of CoreNet Global.
